There is such a wealth of information out there - so much to read and so little time, right? As part of my wellness journey, I came to learn about a whole section of books in the library that I never even heard of before - health and wellness books!

Since I discovered them, I always have one on hand to read! Here are some of my favourite health and wellness books.
The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan
Great read about where your food comes from. Industrial, pastoral, local, what's the difference? While we eat pastured meat from a local farm, this book inspired me to explore more local and seasonal foods.
Side note: I always thought dilemma was spelled with an "n" as in dilemna! Hahaha.
The Big Fat Surprise by Nina Teicholz
This one was really a big fat surprise. Quite a long read, but definitely an eye-opener for sure about nutrition studies and where the current food guidelines came from. I honestly was avoiding fat before, but have since learned that we need healthy fats in our diet.
Salt Sugar Fat by Michael Moss
We have been slowly eliminating processed foods from our diet. This one really illuminates how food companies have learned to manipulate salt, sugar and fat to make us eat more boxed food in the spirit of "convenience". Reading this just reinforced our family's decision to avoid processed food and eat real food.
Mind Over Medicine by Lissa Rankin
This one was written by a medical doctor to convince skeptics about the power of the mind-body connection. Sometimes, it's all just in the mind. This one inspired me to learn about meditation and how to trigger the relaxation response instead of the stress response.
Wheat Belly by William Davis
Wonderfully written with the history of wheat and what happens when we consume it. Our family was not gluten-free until I read this book and I was convinced that we can be healthier without gluten.
Cure Tooth Decay by Ramiel Nigel
My youngest son began having tooth demineralization issues with his front teeth when he was around 3 years old. A pediatric dentist wanted to put him to sleep to put crowns on his baby teeth! No, thank you. We then discovered this book and started to incorporate the Cure Tooth Decay protocol: avoiding processed food, taking fish oil, bone broth, raw milk cheese, etc. With these diet changes, hopefully, his permanent teeth would be stronger and cavity-free!
UnDiet by Meghan Telpner
Great book tackling not just food and nutrition but healthier lifestyle changes as well. Don't forget to read The UnDiet Cookbook by Meghan too!
Get The UnDiet Cookbook from Amazon.
The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo
Simplifying my life and possessions has given me much joy and greatly contributes to my overall wellness. This little book is truly life-changing for me. Keep whatever sparks joy in your life.
Zero Waste Home by Bea Johnson
I'm inspired by what this California family has done to minimize their waste and live simpler lives. Lots of great tips to make the switch to a zero waste lifestyle.
Some of these favourite health books were part of my reading assignments in the Culinary Nutrition Expert program. Read more about what else I learned in the CNE program here.

I adore Michael Pollan! I actually used that bool as a sourcr for a paper I wrote on the meat industry in University. He's truly amazing.
And Mind Over Medicine was such a helpful read when I delt with my first Graves Disease relapse. What a beautifully written book.
I'll need to look into the rest. Thanks for sharing! ?
